Changing the MAC address inside the .vmx file does not affect Windows 2003 servers!

How to change the MAC address in Windows 2003 Server

Find out your present MAC address by running the command ipconfig /all
Your MAC address is represented as 00-0C-29-DD-21-91.

  1. Go to Control Panel > Network Connections > Local Area Connection. Click on Properties box.
  2. Click on Configure... under Connect using in General Tab.
  3. Click on Advanced Tab for the Network card.
  4. Locate and click on Locally Administered Address under Property.
  5. Click the button under Value and type in the new address. Do not use dashes or colons, just numbers such as 000C29DD2491 and click OK.
  6. Check your new MAC address by running the command ipconfig/all again.
